This paper thoroughly investigates the performance requirements of TFTs for 30-inch and 40-inch diagonal full-specification (1920×1080) AMOLED HDTV. We tried to find the minimum required mobility of TFTs to meet the pixel charging capability as well as the OLED driving current for two kinds of voltage programmable pixel structures and one current programmable pixel structure. One of voltage programming pixels is a basic 2TFT-and-1Capacitor (2T1C) pixel, and the other one is a 5TFT-and-1Capacitor (5T1C) pixel proposed for compensating the VTH variations. We choose the current programmable 4TFT-and-2Capacitor (4T2C) pixel structure with voltage boosting function for better current programmability. For this purpose, we found the pixel circuit design methods for minimizing the required mobility with various design parameters, and carefully constitute the panel modeling. Through SPICE simulations reveal that the minimum TFT mobility for 30-inch and 40-inch HDTV with voltage programming pixel structures is 1.19cm2/V-s and 1.00cm2/V-s, respectively, for the 2T1C pixel with VTH = 3V and ΔVP = 200mV, and 0.57cm2/V-s and 0.73cm 2/V-s for the 5T1C pixel with VTH = 3V, respectively. And the minimum TFT mobility of 30-40inch HDTV with the current programmable pixel structure for driving TFT sizes of 30μm/10μm with VTH = 2V and 30μm/10μm with VTH = 3V is 19cm2/V-s and 21cm 2/V-s, respectively.
