Radiation properties in the real living environment and sound quality characteristics of refrigerator noise

Abstract

Refrigerator noise was measured both in an anechoic room and in a real household situation. Auditory preference tests were conducted to improve the sound quality of the refrigerator noise. Subjects were asked to evaluate to various levels of refrigerator noise by loudness and annoyance. Results showed that the sound level difference between the two situations is more than 10dB at 1m distance in the living room. At a real situation the allowable refrigerator noise level is 30dBA with a satisfaction level of 70%. Satisfaction increased up to 90% when the allowable level was reduced by 3-4dB. A semantic differential test using various adjectives was also conducted to evaluate the sound quality of refrigerator noise.
