Ferroelectric anomaly in the differential thermal analysis of PbTiO3 glass

Abstract

The visibility of the ferroelectric anomaly in differential thermal analysis of PbTiO3 glass was investigated, together with the effect of BaO content in the glass composition on the shift of the Curie temperature. The glass composition was 30PbO-30TiO2-(40-x)B2O3-xBaO (mol%, x=0-20 mol%). Glass samples were prepared by casting the melt in a preheated brass mould using the conventional cooling technique. The appearance of the ferroelectric anomaly in DTA largely depends on the crystal size and the glass phases surrounding discrete PbTiO3 crystals. The added Ba ions substitute Pb ions in the PbTiO3 crystals and resulted in the decrease of the Curie temperature and lattice parameters.
