Abstract

A modified perfectly matched layer (PML) for hollow waveguides is proposed. In this formulation, a three-step method based on auxiliary differential equations is used to consider the variation of conductivity profile. Numerical tests show that the proposed one-dimensional (1-D) modal PML offers good absorbing performance with typical thickness (e.g., 16-cell layers). For the analysis of waveguide problems, computational savings can be achieved when the proposed 1-D modal PML is applied to the propagating modes together with the short-circuit condition for the evanescent modes.
