Bent soliton coupler with a saturable nonlinearity

Abstract

Spatial solitons in a Kerr-type medium have unique properties that their envelopes propagate undistorted and survive collisions just as particles do, under certain conditions. Many experimental and theoretical investigations have been carried out. D. R. Heatley et al. proposed a soliton coupler for energy exchange between two adjacent waveguides. K. Ogusu studied the nonlinear wave propagation along bent nonlinear dielectric interfaces for applications in all-optical signal processing. The transmission properties strongly depend on the spatial structure of the bent nonlinear dielectric interface. We studied bent soliton coupler with saturable nonlinearity in Kerr-type medium for all-optical switching devices. We considered the saturation effect since that is very important for the practical applications. We assume that all mediums are lossless to compare characteristics depending on structural difference.
