A new era of oxide thin-film transistors for large-sized AMOLED displays

Abstract

Oxide thin-film transistors (TFT) can play a significant role in the production of large-sized active-matrix organic light-emitting diodes (AMOLED) displays. The AMOLED technology has emerged as the best option, to develop large displays, due to its fast motion-picture response time, vivid color, high contrast, and super-slim light-weight nature. The increasing demand for mid- and large-size displays is creating significant potential for the AMOLED technology. A number of challenges need to be overcome, to develop AMOLED-based displays, leading to their mass production. One of the biggest challenges to widespread adoption and mass production of AMOLED note book personal computers (NPC) and televisions (TVs), is affordable prices. The best strategy to overcome this challenge, is to increase the size of motherglass of AMOLED displays up to Gen 5.5, which corresponds to the most cost-effective backplane size for NPCs.
